MEP engineering in Bali: no smoke in the dining room, no clashes on site

Kitchen exhaust with air balance, ventilation and air conditioning, electrical with spare capacity, water and drainage for restaurants, hotels and villa complexes. We model every system in Revit, install it with our own team and commission it until the kitchen runs clean at peak hour.

01G-000Why it matters

Engineering mistakes are paid for twice, correct design is paid once

A kitchen that smokes into the dining room, stuffy air, condensation on the ceiling and a difficult handover usually share one cause: systems drawn separately and fitted on site by trial and error.

10%

of contract value saved through clash detection on BIM projects, in a Stanford study of 32 major projects. Coordination is cheaper on screen than in a ceiling.

61%

of fires in eating and drinking establishments involve cooking equipment. Hood design and a cleaning schedule are fire safety, not decoration.

is how much more energy per square foot restaurants use than other commercial buildings. Oversized fans and systems that fight each other show up on the PLN bill every month.

24 °C

is the typical dew point of Bali air, month after month. Any duct, pipe or ceiling colder than that collects water unless it is insulated and sealed.

03C-001The team

Engineers from airports and power plants, now designing Bali kitchens

We are MEP engineers working in Bali since 2024. Before the island, our key people spent 15+ years on projects where an engineering mistake is not an option. Here we bring the same discipline to restaurants, HoReCa and apart-hotels: one model, one team and one person responsible for the result.

  • 15+ yrsof MEP practice behind the key engineers: HVAC, industrial ventilation, chilled water, water supply and treatment
  • Revitevery project is modelled in BIM; ducts, pipes and cable trays are coordinated in 3D before work starts
  • 1 teamdesign, installation, commissioning and service in one pair of hands, with no middlemen
  • Balikey specialists live here and come to site; we know what the tropics do to fans, ducts and insulation

Before Bali our engineers worked on Domodedovo Airport Terminal 2, an oncology diagnostics centre, shopping centres and four nuclear power plants: Novovoronezh II, Belarusian, Rooppur and Kola.

What we build, system by system

Typical solutions for Bali venues. Every card has its own WhatsApp button, so you can ask about exactly that option.

Wood-fired pizza oven with its own stainless exhaust hood in an Ubud trattoria
Kitchen exhaust

Wood-fired oven with its own hood

Solid-fuel ovens get a dedicated hood and flue, separate from the rest of the line.

Wok burner line under a long wall canopy hood in a Jakarta restaurant kitchen
Kitchen exhaust

Wok line under a long wall hood

High-heat woks need generous overhang and airflow per metre; baffle filters catch the grease.

Centrifugal kitchen exhaust fan with a vertical discharge stack on a Seminyak rooftop
Kitchen exhaust

Roof fan with a vertical discharge

The plume goes up and away from neighbours and the make-up air intake; the fan stays serviceable.

Air-conditioning outdoor units in a neat row on the roof of an apart-hotel in Canggu
HVAC & fresh air

Rooftop outdoor units for many rooms

Outdoor units grouped on the roof with covered pipe trays, instead of a unit on every balcony.

Villa bedroom in Pererenan with a slim fresh-air diffuser and closed garden doors
HVAC & fresh air

Fresh air for closed villa bedrooms

Slim ceiling diffusers fed by a heat-recovery unit: fresh, drier air with the doors closed.

Water & drainage

In-ground grease interceptor

Sized for the kitchen flow and placed where the cleaning crew can reach it without closing service.

How much air does your kitchen hood need? Calculate it in a minute

Enter the hood type, cooking line length, dining area and seats. Get exhaust, make-up and transfer air in m³/h, cooling capacity, a power estimate and an indicative budget, then send the result to our engineer in one tap.

Sample result: 3 m wall hood, heavy-duty line, 120 m² dining, 60 seats

Kitchen exhaust6,700 m³/h

07G-100How we work

From survey to service, one responsible team

Eight steps. At each one you know what is being done, by whom and what it costs.

Free survey

An engineer visits the site or reviews your drawings, measures and lists what the venue needs.

Concept

System choices with budget ranges: where the air goes, how much power you need, what can be reused.

Revit design

All systems in one 3D model. Clashes are solved on screen; quantities come straight from the model.

Equipment selection

Hoods, fans, AC units, boards, pumps and filters sized from calculations, with service support on the island.

Installation

Our own crews install every system. No chain of subcontractors between the drawing and the ceiling.

Commissioning

Every mode is tested: full cooking line, full dining room, night mode. Airflows are measured and balanced.

Handover

As-built drawings, settings and test results you can show at the SLF inspection and hand to your operator.

Service

After launch we take the systems on maintenance: hoods and filters, air conditioning, electrical checks.

Payment is staged and tied to these steps; the schedule is written into the contract before work starts.

09G-300Typical problems we fix

Three calls we get every month, and what fixes them

Patterns we see in Bali venues. Most of them cost less to prevent in design than to repair after opening.

Smoke and smell reach the dining room

  • ProblemThe open kitchen smells up the hall at peak hour and guests ask for tables far from the pass.
  • CauseExhaust without planned make-up air: the hood pulls air from wherever it can, while the dining AC pushes back.
  • FixPlan the replacement air: part as gentle make-up air in the kitchen, the rest as transfer air from the hall, so the kitchen stays at slight negative pressure. Then commission at full cooking load.

Water drips from the ceiling

  • ProblemDark stains on the gypsum board near diffusers and droplets on ducts in the ceiling void.
  • CauseCold ducts and pipes without continuous vapour-sealed insulation, surrounded by humid air all year.
  • FixInsulate with a vapour barrier, seal every joint, check supply temperatures and fresh-air humidity. Fix the source, not the stain.

Breakers trip at 8 pm

  • ProblemEverything works in the afternoon; at dinner the main breaker or a kitchen circuit trips.
  • CauseLoads were added without a load calculation: extra AC units, a second oven, a dishwasher on the same circuit.
  • FixLoad audit, phase balancing, new circuits and a board with spare capacity, plus a PLN upgrade plan if the connection is the limit.

12F-000FAQ

Before you message us

If your question is not here, just ask it on WhatsApp.

Do you only design, or also install?

Both. We design in Revit, supply the equipment, install every system with our own team, commission it and then maintain it. You can also order design only or an audit of an existing system.

How much does a restaurant kitchen exhaust cost in Bali?

It depends on hood length, cooking type and the duct route to the roof. See the indicative ranges or run the exhaust calculator. The survey and the estimate are free.

Is the site survey really free?

Yes. On request an engineer visits the site or reviews your drawings and prepares a cost estimate at no charge.

Can you fix a system another contractor installed?

Yes. We start with measurements: airflows, pressures, temperatures, electrical loads. Then we propose the smallest change that solves the problem. See MEP audit.

Why design a small restaurant in Revit?

Because ducts, pipes and cable trays compete for the same ceiling. A 3D model shows clashes before they are built, and quantities come from the model, so the estimate is transparent. More in Revit design.

What happens after the launch?

We take the venue on service maintenance: hood and filter cleaning schedules, air conditioning service and electrical checks. See maintenance.

Do you work outside Bali?

Our key specialists are in Bali and most projects are here. Projects elsewhere in Indonesia are discussed case by case.
